Mindcamp Choice Session Description
Creating Contemplative Connections
A Zen photo experience
(Mary Ellyn Vicksta)
Mind U sessionWe will pause and contemplate the world around us while pursuing a Zen photo experience rather than the typical “quick snap” with our smartphones or tablets.
Each day we will take a different contemplative photo journey.
Day 1: We explore light and make discoveries in new and profound ways.
Day 2: We explore color, from subtle to extremely vibrant.
Day 3: We talk about compositional considerations, so you can stretch your image-making and compose in new ways.
Each day we offer reflection questions to contemplate. Along the way we will capture and celebrate the contemplative connections that emerge and transform the way we see the world.

Mary Ellyn VickstaMary Ellyn Vicksta fell in love with photography when her Aunt and Uncle took family pictures when she was a mere child. While others griped about posing for those family moments, Mary Ellyn was intrigued by what is possible with photos. Fast forward to the 21st century where she continues to explore possibilities in creative expression while image taking and image making. She combines traditional image taking using a digital camera or iPhone with image making using photo apps on her iPad. She's become a bit of a photographic groupie for the Canadian photo expressionists, Freeman Patterson and Andre Gallant, with 10 workshops in the past 12 years.
In her distant past, she championed creativity and innovative practices within a corporation. Now, she is using all of the 25 plus years of creativity conference involvement and corporate application to reach back and apply creativity tools and processes personally, professionally, and photographically.
Mary Ellyn is a returning presenter.
