Toby Israel, Ph.D. is the founder of Design Psychology, a field that has gained international attention in the L.A. Times, N.Y. Times, and Financial Times, CBS Sunday Morning, and NPR’s Talk of the Nation. Trained as a multi-disciplinary Environmental Psychologist, she applies her experience in design, psychology, the arts and education to both scholarship and ‘real world’ practice.
A former professor of architecture/psychology at the University of Lincoln (U.K.), she likewise served as head of N.J.’s Visual Arts Program and as manager of LRK Architects’ Design Research division. Her most recent projects/presentations involve using Design Psychology to create healing places and products such as the ‘Robe to Wellness.’ On her mission to deeply connect people and place, she likewise writes Psychology Today’s “Design on My Mind” blog and works directly with designers and clients. Her book, 'Some Place Like Home: Using Design Psychology to Create Ideal Places' discusses her groundbreaking approach.
