Mindcamp Special Events
Walk On: Birds, bees, and other natural things
Friday & Saturday at 6pm • Richard Aaron
Cedar Glen's 260 acres are the perfect backdrop for Mindcamp, but have you every wondered about the world beyond the walls and fences? How many of those acres have you really explored? Naturalist Richard Aaron invites all Mindcampers to meet some of Cedar Glen's true inhabitants: the flora and fauna who live there year after year. Meet him in the entrance area of the Main Lodge at 6pm on Friday or Saturday (or both) for a 60-minute guided exploration of Mindcamp's meadows, forests, streams, and ravines. Bring walking shoes/boots!
Art Building Children's Dreams
Friday evening • Frank Smith, Lynn Bird, Laurie Bowers
When Frank Smith finally retired from teaching high school art, he joined a Rotary Club trip to rebuild and repair community buildings in Tanzania. Between working sessions he began to do what came naturally: teaching art, in this case to needy local children in the area. Thus was born Art Building Children's Dreams (ABCD), an innovative, grass-roots organization devoted to providing financial assistance to the schools and families of children at risk, using the children's own artworks to raise funds for their education and for community development. Frank and partners Lynn Bird and Laurie Bowers will be talking about their innovative project after dinner on Friday. Some of the children's artworks will be on display and available for sale to participants. 100% of the funds go directly to benefit the child who created the artwork.
Labyrinth
All weekend • Joe Miguez
The Labyrinth has been used by human beings throughout recorded history and across cultures as both a means and a metaphor for enlightenment, creativity, and self discovery. Using a labyrinth constructed according to both ancient and modern principles by Joe and the Mindcamp volunteer labyrinth construction crew (of which you may be a member!), accelerate the reflective/creative process to gain clarity, direction of action, and implementation of intention. Be prepared to be surprised!

Take out your compass. Clamp on the carabiners. Belay that order (or your partner). If you've ever wanted to try your hand and feet at rock climbing, this is your chance. Led by qualified, skilled, and safety-trained YMCA leadership staff, Cedar Glen's Climbing Wall may be just the thing to unlink your kinks. Take a break (well, not literally). You'll love it.

These ropes courses are a powerful learning tool for both personal and team development.
